Acireale’s great cultur traditions have accompanied its development throughout history. Proof of the importance that culture has had in the city’s history is the Zelantea Library, founded in 1671. It has about 200,000 volumes, including incunabula and rare editions. Zelantea is one of the oldest and richest libraries in Sicily. It holds the elegant carriage of the Senato Acese, with guilt and painted wood curving. The Pinacoteca annex is quite interesting. Here, along with paintings from the Acese school, there are fine works from the schools of Rubens, Titian and Pietro Novelli
